(AFIAP ) Artist award from the International Federation of Photographic Art

13th June 2011
Recently I attended Irish National Print and Projected Images finals. Over the last year, I have become familiar with the work of many excellent Irish photographers, whose images win awards all over the world. It was no surprise to see these images in the mix again in a national competition.

For myself, I was very happy to win an Irish Photographic Federation Silver medal on the day. Also, for continued success in international photographic competitions I was awarded the AFIAP distinction.

One of the judges on the day happened to be the Director of FIAP Distinctions Freddy Van Gilbergen EFIAP, who presented me with this award.

Entering competitions is a good way to get your images out there. If you do well in FIAP or PSA sponsored salons there is a high chance one of your images will appear in the printed exhibition catalogue or better still, be printed and framed as part of a print exhibition that many organisers undertake.

Recently, I was informed by the organisers of one of these exhibitions in Port Elizabeth, South Africa, that all 4 of the images I entered were being considered for awards. Winning images were chosen a few weeks later at the opening of the print exhibition. It was a huge pleasure to be told that 3 of my images had won individual awards and that I would also be receiving an overall award for the best set of 4 images.

So, 2011 is proving to be a very fruitful year. My images continue to win awards and be exhibited all over the world.
